Wayanad
It was a Life Insurance
Corporation officers and agents tour and we were invited by my sister in laws
husband who is an outdoor enthusiast. We all started from Kayamkulam at around
6pm and with lots of children making correct noise we all reached Mananthavady at around 5 am.
There were few leaders who made our journey
very smooth and after reaching Mananthavady they swiftly entered a large lodge
where the manager who was sleeping outrightly told there was no room. So again we all entered the travels and
started searching for a new place urgently for we all needed to get freshened
up for it was early morning. We could not get ample rooms for almost 15 family
so we again approached the same lodge .
Surprise !!! Surprise !!!! Surprise !!!!! , The whole lodge was almost
vacant and we got it because the new manager instantly saw a huge business.
This was my first visit to north Kerala and I decided to make it large ! No
Drinks ! .
DAY 1 After breakfast we all headed to Kurva island. Kuruvadweep (Kuruva Island) is a 950-acre (3.8
km2) protected river delta on the Kabini River in the Wayanad district,Kerala,
India. This island of dense and evergreen forest is uninhabited and hence a home
to rare kinds of flora and fauna: uncommon species of birds, orchids and herbs
namely
To reach the
island we have to take small ferry ride. There are bamboo bridges and bamboo resting
place on the way because of the availability of bamboo . We all reached to the
far end near the river site , on the river there is bamboo raft where some
people were enjoying .Huge trees welcomed us they may be centuries old ,some
were dead also .The place is maintained by forest department.
Many of us were
busy climbing on the small trees and the ladies and children were playing in
the flowing river.
After spending
some time we were all tired and returned
and had our meals and later headed to
see the Edakkal caves but we could not reach in time so we were quite
dishearten , and so to make up for that we headed to Ambalavayal
Heritage Museum .It houses a rich collection of artefacts which stand in
testimony of the fact that there had been an advanced civilisation which
existed in the mountains of Wayanad. This heritage museum is one of the
largest and best archaeological museums in the state. Exhibits in the museum
include many stone weapons, stone carvings, 14th to 16th century sculptures,
potteries of Megalithic Age, hunting equipments, clay sculptures and other
interesting artefacts. Idols made of hard and soft rocks, which were believed
to be worshipped by the ancient people too can be seen in the museum.
Children were
full of energy so palyed in the park adjacent . The sisters were tired yet
smiling cause they are happy to escape the routine house hold activities .
From there we
reached Banasurasagar Dam. And after taking some pics headed to our lodge and retired for the day.
Day 2
